Overview:

Tae Kwon Do is the most popular of the Korean martial arts and is the Korean national sport.  In Korean, Tae means “to kick or destroy with the foot”; Kwon means “to punch with the fist”; and Do means “way” or “art”.  Hence, Tae Kwon Do is loosely translated as “the art of kicking and punching” or “the way of the foot and the fist.”

Tae Kwon Do is a combination of combat technique, self-defense, sport, exercise, entertainment, and philosophy.  Olympic-level competitive Tae Kwon Do is considered one of the finest self-defense martial arts, and is practiced at a championship level in more than 150 countries.
